Single. Seek. Accept.

It’s a question that comes along with many complex answers. The complexity isn’t in the answers but in knowing if the answers are coming from how you feel about him, or if it is the will of God.  We can often be tied up between our physical being and our spiritual being and that’s when we seek counsel and pray fervently.

Today, I’d like to take you through few steps that has helped me do what is right and have peace about it.

It’s a three step process – Single. Seek. Accept.

Your season of singleness, your reason to seek God’s will when you find the one and the courage to accept God’s will.

Season of Singleness

Being single is an amazing blessing and a season from God. Often, men and women do not understand the purpose of this season.
1 Corinthians 7:32 – But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.

This is your calling my single friends. It’s your season with God alone.
Why is this season so special?
This is a special season you live that fully satisfies your spirit and mind by spending time with God alone. No other emotional commitment.  In living this season to the fullest, you are transformed to be the man / woman you are intended to be. Because this relationship makes you feel special, loved, belonged and more importantly – your reciprocating Love. Being in such a relationship, makes you feel confident, humbled and you are made aware of the areas you need to work on to be a blessing someone is praying for.

This is a season you cannot miss to enjoy. Do not be concerned about anything else, but just you and God. Eventually, He will bring the right person to you.

How do to know if he’s the right person for you?

We often come across good people, God-fearing and kind hearted people who might be interested in you or vice-versa.  How would you know if you can take it to the next step without being delusional?

Ask yourself these questions –

  1. What place does God have in his or her life?

  2. Do you like one another?

  3. Do you respect one another?

  4. Do you respect each others families or standards?

  5. Do you share the same value system?

  6. Can you be friends as well?

  7. Can you talk easily and  for long?

  8. Are you intellectually on the same level?

  9. Do you have common interests / take out time to invest in the other?

  10. How do you feel about common areas (children, church, cash, life)

If the answer is mostly “yes” to the above questions, you are probably getting much closer to identifying your future spouse.

Seeking God’s Will

No one knows the will of God, like God himself. But when you have learnt in your singleness to draw closer to Him and walk with him consistently, you will be more aware of God’s doing in your life and obedient to his voice.

There are two facets of God’s will.

  1. The revealed will of God – The standards you find in the bible.

  2. The Specific will of God for you – This is very specific for you.

When you are faithful to fulfilling your purpose in Christ, the revealed will of God will be your compass to finding the specific will of God.

God will speak to you in ways that you can understand. To the shepherd, he spoke in parables of the sheep; to the fishermen he was their messiah. He knows his audience.

He will lead your footsteps as you pray for yourself and your partner. Be bold enough to ask. God has never failed.  You will also have the wisdom to release when you know this is not God’s will for you.

How do you have peace about it?

Finally Accept.

Sometimes, the true test is in accepting the will of God and following in its totality. Sometimes, the will of God may not be as romanticised as you expected it to be. Or few things were not as easy as you thought it might be that needs God’s intervention. TRUST. God will make a way when there is no way. Your marriage is a ministry. Its foundations cannot be on things that are easy and according to your will. Its foundations is on the promises of God and the faithfulness of two loving children. Don’t let fear play, but have the courage to follow the will of God and believe He will equip you with everything you need.

My prayers are with you. I hope you don’t find what you’re looking for, but find that has your name written on it.
